8: Drift. Allow yourself to wander aimlessly. Explore adjacencies. Lack judgement. Postpone criticism.
My main reason for taking the directions I am is basically surrounded by the idea of wandering and exploring. I’m taking on a double major in specifically arts driven studies. Its not art with education, its visual arts and theater management, standing on their own. At the same time these give me a diverse range of skills I can use to wander, but they also limit me to wander where I know I will be interested to go. I never want to be stuck, I want to find what I love through constant exploration, and sometimes that means ignoring the ways things may not be working until I’ve found what does.
18: Stay up late. Strange things happen when you’ve gone too far, been up too long, worked too hard, and you’re separated from the rest of the world.
I can attest to this. One night, I couldn’t sleep. it was 2:00 am before staying up until 2:00 am was normal, and I decided to get up and draw weird Pokemon related doodles. It is some of the weirdest and funniest stuff to look at now, but being so tired helped me be creative in a completely open way. I wasn’t worried about if it was crappy or not, I just felt like drawing and let whatever my hands wanted to draw show up on the page. There was no outside pressure, just pure, sleep deprived brain vomit. Every so often I’ll stay up late enough to make something weird.
43: Power to the people. Play can only happen when people feel they have control over their lives. We can’t be free agents if we’re not free.
Obviously relevant enough. A lot of people are about to face a struggle for their right to live peacefully in this country. It will be the responsibility of people like me who have a lot of privilege to ensure that the people around me are safe with equal opportunities. The progression of the world is dependent on self expression through means such as visual or performing arts. Without freedom, we will move backward instead.
